課程概述 |
This semester builds on the foundations of the previous semester, which familiarized students with the structure and organization of a composition and different modes of exposition (including comparison/contrast, process, example, and classification). In this semester, we will move on to argumentation and also personal statement. Furthermore, students will be introduced to the basics of research writing through the step-by-step completion of a mini-research paper. |
課程目標 |
At the end of the semester, students should expect to:
compose essays that are at least 5 paragraphs in length with a clear thesis and strong supporting details;
edit, revise, and review own and others’ essays with emphasis on meaningful content and logical organization;
become a more conscious writer;
have ㄇbasic understanding of the process and the actual writing of a mini-research paper. |
課程要求 |
1. Conscientious preparation, punctual attendance, and active participation are essential for your learning and your grade. Preparation involves, but is not limited to, printing out and bringing to class relevant materials for a particular class session.
2. Assignments will be announced in class and are due on the designated date. Failure to submit ANY assignment on time as required will result in a very low grade. You will be asked to re-do an assignment if it is not deemed satisfactory by the instructor.
3. PLAGIARISM and cheating will not be tolerated. Plagiarism is globally recognized as a serious academic offense and will result in your failing the course and receive disciplinary measures following university regulations. Cheating will also result in a grade of zero for this course as well as university disciplinary measures.
4. We will make use of the university e-learning platform. It is your responsibility to have an active email account and to ensure smooth communication with the instructor.
5. There will be NO make-up for any missed course work or in-class activities. |
